Intro Graphic Design Illustration Creative Writing Contact Me

While I've been interested in drawing and the like since I was a little kid, my interest in graphic design is much more recent. Originally it was a pragmatic answer to the question of how I could channel my abilities into something that could pay the bills, but over time I grew to enjoy a number of aspects of graphic design in its own right.

Black Hole Chaos: A ProtonJon Jonaverse Fanbook

Organiser, Layout Designer

A fanzine for the content creator Proton Jon - or more specifically the characters spawned by the artists and writers in his fan community. Early in 2022, another member of the fan community floated the idea of creating a zine featuring some of these characters, and I offered to lend my graphic design skills. This led to me being brought on as not just a graphic designer, but also one of the project's organisers.

The other main graphic designer in the team came up with the general aesthetic and colour scheme of the project. From there I used their work as a basis for the layouts of the zine itself, from background colours, to frames to put text into, to making sure every written piece (of which there were more than we initially expected) was legible and flowed well.

Black Hole Chaos was a non-profit work done for charity, and we raised over $4000 US for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Nasue Blue Character Reference Booklet

Character Designer, Layout Designer, PDF Maker

Like many other creatives on the internet, I use a character to represent myself online rather than my flesh-and-blood self. Naturally the character needed a reference sheet, but the design was too complex to put it all into one image. The solution: create a PDF booklet!

The booklet is 10 pages long; 7 of those pages show different variants on the character's outfit, while the last 3 highlight specific details. Each page has links to the other pages, as well as the hex codes for each colour that the specific outfit variant uses.

The booklet took a week to make, with the majority of that week going towards drawing the character and clothing. The actual PDF work took about a day.

For Fun: WordArt Style Parodies

Parody Maker

One day I realised that WordArt from Windows 95-era Office is very easy to replicate with vector tools. So I decided to try out making my own. While I did make an effort to create some wonderfully ugly "typography", I also took care to be as accurate to what I was parodying as I could be.
